For 140 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of America ...has been saving and changing the lives of youth in the United States and around the world.

Our Mission...to provide a safe place for youth of all backgrounds and ages to become responsible and productive adults.

In every community, boys and girls are left to find their own recreation and companionship in the streets. An increasing number of children are at home with no adult care or supervision. Young people need to know that someone cares about them.

Boys & Girls Clubs offer that and more. Club programs and services promote and enhance the development of boys and girls by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence.

Boys & Girls Clubs are a safe place to learn and grow -- all while having fun. It is truly The Positive Place For Kids.

Erika M. - YOUTH OF THE YEAR
HARBOR CITY CLUB

Twelve-year-old Erika is an A student who is always willing to help. She is a very outgoing and responsible young lady who readily assists any staff member who needs it. Erika likes to help the younger kids with their homework and she is a natural leader.

Always the first to volunteer and participate, Erika takes charge with enthusiasm. She is looked upon as a truly good kid by everyone who comes to know her. She is surely a leader of tomorrow!

LaPorche S. - YOUTH OF THE YEAR
HARBOR HILLS CLUB

Fourteen-year-old LaPorche is a very ambitious young lady who is always willing to help at anytime. On several occasions, she has offered unsolicited assistance to the staff when help was needed.

Most impressive about LaPorche is her tendency to help the younger children with homework, dance classes and arts and crafts. She shows her dedication to the program on a daily basis through her unselfish acts. It is kids like LaPorche that makes us certain that the future of the club and its members is in good hands.

Nathanie Pye - PARENT OF THE YEAR
Nathanie is a preschool teacher and mother of second grader Jordan. She has been volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club for four years and was elected president of the Parent Volunteer Committee. She has successfully organized the parents on more than one occasion. Nathanie always gives help wherever it is needed.

Michelle Chamberlain - PARENT OF THE YEAR Michelle has been volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club for four and a half years. Her daughter, ten year old Erica, is a fifth grader at Normont School. Michelle works for the school board and the cafeteria at Wilmington Jr. High. She loves cooking and volunteers in the kitchen at Normont School. Michelle has been known to help the staff with purchases for projects and events. She is a dedicated and trusted parent and volunteer.

Youth of the Year
Boys & Girls Clubs of America's premier youth recognition program promotes and celebrates Club members' service to Club, community and family; academic performance; spiritual values; life goals and poise and public speaking ability.

The Youth of the Year program is most effective when used as a year-round tool for fostering young people's personal growth and leadership qualities.

Local Clubs recognize Youths of the Month and select a Youth of the Year, who then participates in state competition. State winners participate in regional competition.

Five regional winners each receive a $5,000 scholarship and compete on the national level. The National Youth of the Year receives an additional $10,000 scholarship and is installed by the President of the United States.

The Youth of the Year Program, in existence for more than 50 years, is sponsored by the Reader's Digest Association. Youth of the Year Program Kits are sent free of charge to Clubs each year.
